UK Pay Scales exists because the answer to "what does an NHS Band 5 actually pay" is a published public document, and yet the search results for it are LinkedIn posts, forum threads and sites quoting last year's figures.

Public-sector pay is unusually knowable. NHS Employers publishes the Agenda for Change poster. The STPCD sets teacher pay. The NJC circular sets council pay. The Home Office determination sets police pay. The pay review bodies publish their reports in full. This site collects those documents, reproduces the figures exactly, and links the source under every table.

It is built and maintained by James Burfield, an SEO consultant who builds UK data reference sites, including wagepage.co.uk (pay and tax calculators) and mymotchecker.co.uk. This site deliberately has no calculators: for take-home pay on any salary here, wagepage does that job properly.

The rules the figures follow

Every number is checked against the primary document it comes from, and the check date is shown on the page. Where a figure is not yet final (an award announced but the determination or STPCD not yet published), it is labelled indicative and the label explains what is still pending. Verified figures and derived figures never share a table without saying which is which. The full policy is on the sources and methodology page.
